SEPTEMBER 9th: Sunday School Rally day as we launch a new year of Sunday School after our 8:30 service. Children and youth in kindergarten and up are all invited. Adults please offer to participate in our program as well. Classes are structured that you can volunteer for one or more weeks spread out over the year. Contact Jeannette Emmerich or Elaine Kuntz.

The Blessing of the Backpacks for all students and educators is celebrated this day at both services.

We are also Cross Roads Camp bound that day. It is God's Work, Our Hands day and we are setting up carpooling to do clean-up and maintenance projects at the camp. a

Confirmation Classes resume with an orientation meeting for new and returning students (primarily 7th and 8th graders) on September 16 at 6pm. This gathering is very important. If you cannot attend please let Pastor Chris know as soon as possible. Additional volunteers are needed to make our confirmation ministry a success. Confirmation uses as many adults as it can gather to model faithful learning and discipleship for our young adults. We will need presenters to share material for classes, guides to mentor our young adults and others to fill in as substitutes when needed. If you are planning on or considering being a guide or presenter please let him know. If you have questions about being a guide please ask Pastor Chris or Diane Rossi they will tell you all about it.

Sisters in Prayer meets on Saturday, Sept 15, at 9:30AM.  In the following months we gather on the second Saturday of the month. All women are invited come together at Holy Counselor to pray together for an hour and enjoy each other's insights and fellowship. Contact Liz Walker to learn more about it.

Paint and Sip Party with Silent Auction Baskets, Saturday, September 29,  2:00 – 6:00 pm, WELCA is sponsoring this fundraiser to help us make up the deficit in our general fund.  Everyone 21 years or older are invited to come and paint a picture (canvasses, brushes, paint and aprons provided) and drink some wine or soft drinks.  Cheese and crackers, fruit, and other refreshments will be provided along with 2 glasses of wine per person, and a Thrivent t-shirt.  This is a really fun event, and there will be gift baskets auctioned off in a silent auction as well.  Registration is limited so to sign up, contact Ginny Schotter or check out www.thepaintingtrowel.net to register.

Choir rehearsal on Thursday evenings.  From September through May or so, we meet each week at 7:30 on Thursdays for about 2 hours and Sunday mornings at 10:00 to rehearse our anthems for the 10:30 services, during which we sing every Sunday.  New people are always welcomed and needed.

You do not have to be a great singer to join.  There is no audition, no
prerequisites required, only a desire to sing and serve our Lord through music. Do you play guitar?  Piano?  Drums?  Maybe a wind or string instrument? Musicians are welcome as well.

Our music director is always excited to involve new musicians in Holy Counselor's music ministry.  If you want to participate, she will find a place for you.  Please join us!

Adopt a Roadway Fundraiser, Sunday, October 7th at 12pm. We can earn up to $500 for our church from the township of Vernon, picking up trash along Sand Hill and MacPeek roads.  Gloves, trash bags, reflective vests and t-shirts are provided. All we need to do is get 8 to 12 people ages 8 and up to pick up roadside litter and leave it in bags for the town to collect.  More people make the task easier!. We will reschedule if it rains heavily, but not for light rain.  See Emilie Dupont or Diane Rossi for a permission slip for children/youth group members. Adults do not need a release form.

Oktoberfest/ Silent Auction of the Gifts, Saturday, Oct 20. Our sixth annual Oktoberfest dinner and Silent Auction will be held from 5:00-6:30pm. There will not be a live auction this year. There will be door prizes and tray memory games!
 
This fundraiser is totally fun, reduces our general fund deficit, and encourages church fellowship at all the events that are gifted. This year all the services and gifts will be directed at helping the church instead of each other. The Oktoberfest dinner includes assorted German sausages, homemade potato salad, warm pretzels, delicious mustard and other condiments. BYOB. German and American desserts will be potluck, so please sign up on the sheet in the narthex. Tickets are $20 per person or $35 per family.
